How Acupuncture May Help

Research suggests acupuncture may help support nervous system regulation, stress management, relaxation, sleep quality, and overall well-being.

Many patients report feeling calmer, more grounded, and better able to cope with daily stressors following treatment.

Acupuncture is not intended to replace mental health care or medical treatment when needed. Instead, it can serve as part of a comprehensive and collaborative approach to supporting emotional and physical well-being.

What to Expect from Treatment

Every treatment begins with a conversation.

We'll discuss your current stressors, symptoms, health history, sleep, digestion, energy levels, emotional wellbeing, and overall health. The goal is to understand how stress may be affecting your body and identify opportunities to support greater balance and resilience.

Treatment takes place on a comfortable heated table with pillows, bolsters, and blankets available for support. Acupuncture points are selected based on your individual presentation, and you'll then rest quietly for about 20–30 minutes while your body has an opportunity to relax and restore.

Many patients leave treatment feeling deeply relaxed and report ongoing improvements in stress levels, sleep quality, and overall well-being over time.

A Personalized Approach to Healing

Stress affects everyone differently.

Dr. Carolyn takes a whole-person approach, considering how stress may be impacting sleep, digestion, hormones, pain levels, energy, mood, and overall quality of life.

Acupuncture points are selected based on your individual presentation, and treatment may be enhanced with therapies such as craniosacral therapy, aromatherapy, herbal medicine, dietary recommendations, lifestyle support, or mindfulness practices when appropriate.

Care is always collaborative, and treatments are adjusted based on your goals, preferences, and response to care. The focus is not simply on managing stress, but on helping you build greater resilience and long-term wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can acupuncture help with stress?

Research suggests acupuncture may help support stress management, relaxation, nervous system regulation, and overall quality of life. Many patients report feeling calmer and better able to cope with daily challenges after treatment.

Can stress affect physical health?

Yes. Chronic stress can contribute to muscle tension, headaches, digestive concerns, sleep disturbances, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and increased sensitivity to pain. Supporting stress management may have positive effects throughout the body.

How many treatments will I need?

For many people, 4–6 weekly treatments provides a good starting point. This allows enough time for the nervous system to begin shifting into a calmer, more regulated state and for those changes to become more sustainable. We'll reassess your progress along the way and adjust your treatment plan based on your individual needs and goals.
