Every treatment begins with a conversation.
We'll spend time discussing your health history, current concerns, symptoms, goals, and anything else that feels important to share. This is your opportunity to tell your story and help us understand the bigger picture of your health.
As part of a traditional Chinese medicine assessment, Dr. Carolyn may also evaluate your pulse and tongue, which provide additional information about patterns within the body.
Once your treatment plan has been discussed, you'll settle comfortably onto a heated treatment table.
Bolsters, pillows, blankets, and other supportive props are available to help you feel relaxed and fully supported throughout your session. Your comfort is always a priority, and adjustments can be made at any time, including to needle placement.
Most acupuncture needles are about the width of a human hair and are significantly thinner than the needles used for injections or blood draws. Normal needle insertion sensations are "mosquito-bite" like and sometimes completely pain-free, depending on the area being needled.
Before needles are placed, Dr. Carolyn may gently palpate areas of tension, discomfort, or acupuncture points to better understand what your body is communicating that day.
Treatments are highly individualized. No two sessions are exactly alike.
Treatments are always collaborative. Questions before, during, and after treatment are welcome.
Most acupuncture needles are placed with minimal sensation. Patients commonly describe the experience as feeling surprisingly gentle.
After the needles are placed, you'll rest quietly for approximately 20–30 minutes. Many patients drift into a light sleep or deeply relaxed state during this time.
Soft lighting, a peaceful environment, gentle music and optional aromatherapy help create a space where your nervous system can slow down and your body can focus on healing.
Depending on your needs, treatment may also incorporate additional therapies such as:
Cupping
Gua Sha
Craniosacral Therapy
Reiki
Massage Therapy
Herbal Medicine Recommendations
Dietary & Lifestyle Guidance
Essential Oils & Aromatherapy
These therapies are thoughtfully integrated to support your treatment goals and enhance your overall experience.
Every person responds differently to treatment.
Some patients leave feeling deeply relaxed or sleepy. Others notice reduced pain, improved mobility, increased mental clarity, or a sense of calm and groundedness. Occasionally, people feel energized and refreshed.
Drinking water, eating nourishing meals, and giving yourself permission to slow down when possible can help support the benefits of treatment.
